Married Life, Fatherhood, Mental Health And Journey In Bollywood By Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor is someone who I have spoken a lot about in the show, primarily about how he has dark horse energy inside him.

He has been in this industry for almost 20 years. His journey started as a background dancer in the film Dil Toh Pagal Hai. From there, he has worked his way up to becoming the established actor.

This conversation was a thorough analysis of Shahid Kapoor’s mind. We spoke about mental health, married life, how fatherhood changes him, etc.

Shahid Kapoor’s new movie Jersey is releasing on 22nd April. Make sure you watch it. For now, enjoy reading this blog. Happy reading.

Being Mentally Sane During Promotion

Usually, when a movie is about to be released, the interviews and promotion take a toll on an actor\’s mental health. My first question to Shahid Kapoor was: When a movie is about to release, with all the promotions going on, what does your brain feel from inside?

“It is pretty smooth if you don’t overthink and when you are promoting something you love, it is always from a good place. The best way of looking at promotion is not thinking about how tired you are but thinking of it as how many people will know about your film because of the promotion and interviews”.

Moments Of Self-Doubt

I honestly believe Shahid Kapoor has dark horse energy. People around us always doubt our potential, which leads to having a lot of self-doubt issues. My question to Shahid Kapoor was, does he still doubt himself?

“Yes, there are moments when I doubt certain things. But it doesn\’t affect me so much as I am calm and sure of myself. I wouldn’t be able to live the life I am living or make the choices I made if it wasn’t for my self-assured mind. At times, you think flippantly about who you are as a person. These moments happen but you kind of need to push through it”.

“I accept myself for who I am and where I am. The way to deal with self-doubt is to appreciate what you have done, accept your mistakes, and learn from that”.

“I get motivated by the surrounding people. To be motivated is only beneficial to yourself. Find it wherever you can and run away from self-pity. Only you can help yourself”.

About His Kids

The next question that I asked was how does he look so young?

“It is all in your soul. I focus on my children a lot. Their energy is so pure, I feel enriched when I am with them. When I am spending time with them, I am just taken back to my childhood, the version of myself that I loved the most”.

“Now, I am pretty disciplined about my sleep. After I had kids, I was no longer a complete insomniac. I am a vegetarian and I don’t drink. I have stopped smoking now so, even that has helped I guess”.

Fatherhood

If you have been following me, you guys know how much I crave fatherhood and I feel that even guys have some kind of biological clock. Being a father of two adorable kids, I asked him what fatherhood is like and when do you know you are ready for it?

“I think getting married and being a father are two things you can never be completely ready for. You won’t know how to deal with it till you deal with it. Holding a baby is the best feeling in the world and you can’t have it again as kids keep growing. Parents tell you all the time ‘kab Bade ho gaye pata hi nahi chala’ and when you become parents, you truly realize this”.

“I feel I was ready to be a father because it just felt very smooth when it happened. A part of me was waiting for it. I wanted a normal family life, a feeling of a complete home. I was living alone for a while and I always felt a need for a partner to truly share what you are feeling. You have your parents and all but having a companion is different”.

Changes After Marriage

To be honest, I am jealous of Shahid Kapoor\’s married life. It is just so beautiful to see a beautiful couple in love. My next question was how has marriage changed him as a person?

\"\"

“Marriage was a big shift. You are the best version of yourself when you are thinking about others, and that’s what marriage teaches you. You are supposed to find a balance between yourself and making your partner feel comfortable at the same time”.

“We are great when we are together and we are good for each other, but we are also different from each other. There are days where we are amazed at each other and we even have days where we don’t get each other”.

Be The Best Version Of You

Being into fitness for so many years, I know it is a little difficult to put on muscles when you are a vegetarian. Shahid Kapoor has been a vegetarian since he was 20 years old. My question to him was how did he build his body for films like Kaminey and Udta Punjab with a vegetarian diet?

“I was eating the same thing day in and day out. I can’t do that anymore. To put on muscle, I ate a lot of protein and trained a lot. Today, you can get vegan protein in so many varieties.  Now I can’t have a build like that because I can’t eat too much protein”.

\"\"

“I was skinny as a kid and I wanted to have a build at that time. It is easier to beef up in your 20s or 30s and when you get that build, it takes a toll on your system. Now I enjoy being my natural self. I just want to be the best version of myself”.

Mental Health

I have met many people from the film industry and there are very few people who have their mental health intact. Shahid Kapoor is one of those few people and being a part of the industry, it is difficult to keep your mental health in check. I asked him what he does differently to keep his mental health in check?

“I have reached that state now. I won’t say I was always there. I feel I am centered and I keep it simple. Push the noise away, the stuff that doesn’t matter and we do overthink everything. Push yourself hard but don’t run away from it”.

\"\"

“You need to do spiritual things for your mental health. Your mind and your soul are two unique entities. Your mind is everything outward and your soul is everything upward, so the more you connect with your soul, the calmer your brain is. Everything will come to you when your mind is still”.

Faith In Higher Power

I asked Shahid Kapoor, what are the 3 things that helped him become him?

“Grace of God, I am thankful for where I am and I don’t think I could have done it if it weren\’t for the higher power guiding me and bringing me where I am today”.

“I have a lot of questions and when you try finding answers, your search for the truth begins, and Karma, these are the 3 things I think”.

Message To Young Shahid Kapoor

My next question to him was, what will he tell his younger self?

“ My message to my younger self would be, you did well. Good job. Thank you for choosing the life that you did because I love how it is now.\”

\"\"

\”There is always a higher power looking after you. The road might be difficult, but you will get there”.

That was a fun podcast, and my takeaway from this was the stillness. To be an efficient warrior, who can survive, conquer, and find the fighter spirit in you, you need to have the stillness within you first.

Thank you for reading.
